SEMA

In Old Turkish, the word ‘sema’ has its roots in Arabic and generally means ‘sky’ or ‘heaven.’ It is often used to describe the celestial or spiritual realm. In a broader cultural context, especially in Sufi traditions, ‘sema’ refers to a spiritual listening or hearing of music and poetry, often associated with the whirling dance of the Mevlevi dervishes, symbolising a mystical journey toward divine love.

This unique piece draws inspiration from this concept and features a distinctive French lace from the 1920s. The lace is treated with a water-based chemical process to achieve a rigidity that complements the metal framing, creating a harmonious blend of delicate craftsmanship and structural elegance.
