LATIFE

In Turkish, ‘latife’ means a ‘joke’ or ‘witty remark.’ It is often used to describe light-hearted or humorous statements made in a playful manner. The word can also imply a sense of wit or cleverness in conversation.

Historically, it has roots in Arabic, where it similarly refers to something that is gentle or delicate, but in Turkish, the focus is more on the humorous or jesting aspect. Inspired by the concept of preserving cherished vintage fabrics, this limited-edition brooch frames a piece of satin-silken material from Latife Hanım (Latife Bekir Çeyrekbasıoglu). A notable feminist and one of the early female politicians in the Republic of Turkey, Latife Hanım's legacy is celebrated through this elegant design, merging historical significance with modern artistry.
